Sometimes you just have to go outside and see/hear what is there. I was kind of tired of the steady rumble on my recordings in town, even if it’s only a village. The rumble most certainly comes from the nearby highway as well as from the A/C units everyone is using in town.
Not many ways around it without making the recording sound tinny and unnatural.
So I decided to go further away from everything. Having a 4 wheel drive comes in handy for this as most of the “roads” are unpaved, and often unmaintained. Shocks and tires take a hit on those roads for sure.
A few kilometers/miles away from all the “people humdrum”, I found a quiet spot in the forest. I stopped the car in the middle of the “road”, nobody around.
After switching off the engine, I listened and heard only the faintest sound of dripping water and an occasional bird. So I set up my mics with my Zoom F3 and added my Bluetooth earbuds to that. There was much more to listen to once I adjusted the volume on the earbuds.
Here is what I heard:
The view was awesome, but the sound (amplified) even better. The big “bump” at the start of the recording is a Green Frog, one of the first of the season. Further, you can hear water drops falling in the pond, tiny birds and slight wind noise.
As a recording, this is nothing earth-shattering, but it is great to relax for a few minutes.
Until next time…
