It’s not often I get up early in the morning, wide-eyed and bushy-tailed. I usually fall back into a deep sleep until well past civilized wakeup times. Sometimes, though, it happens. Last weekend was such a time. I was awake at 5:30 am and couldn’t get back to sleep.
So the next logical step was to grab a face cloth, dunk it in icy water and put it on my face to make sure that this golden moment wouldn’t go away.
As a photographer, I know what to do and how to get the most out of it. As a newbie-recordist, not so much. I left the house, walked to a nice, fairly quiet place, only to find out that my F3 was complaining about lack of battery power.
I managed to get a few minutes out of the batteries and then it was the end. Walk back to the house in a crappy mood (newbie mistakes do that to me), got a new set of batteries and I went out again. Those few minutes did give me the song of a horny Northern Cardinal. You see them in Angry Birds and other iconic tales.
But by the time I got back to the same spot, the ambient noise level had gone up significantly. So I jumped back in my car to find quieter areas. And quiet they were. Not a bird or other animal making a sound. Either they were still asleep, or they were simply elsewhere. I didn’t want to record running water (again). I guess I’ll have to do that again in a few weeks, when the water levels are different.
I will have to go out more to find different subjects.
Until next time…
