New tool

Sometimes it is “necessary” to update the content of the toolbox. I have had plenty of times where my trusty Zoom H6 declared surrender when recording high dynamic sound. Either I got the raindrops right and the thunder was blown out, or I didn’t get the raindrops and a perfect thunderclap.

Self explanatory

Recording in multiple formats at once is a solution, but one that bugs me.

I am not a sound engineer and not as proficient in sound as I am with photography. So instead of preparing to invest in lots of time I don’t have due to a day job, I decided to get a new tool instead. One that still puts the emphasis on post production, but at least doesn’t tell me I need multiple files at once (synchronised at that) to create a believable soundscape.

The Zoom F3 with its 32 bit float recording levels allows me to do just that. And while I have just received it and haven’t had much time to use it just yet, I am as happy as my cat on my lap:

Two Behringer C-2 mics applied to a live cat. Dead cats not required for this take Smile

Until next time…
