Relief

A few weeks ago, the weather was kind of “off”. Temperatures of +30C in May are not exactly common. On top of that, wildfires popped up in way too many places. With no end in sight, the birds were somewhat “subdued”. Still singing, but not as happy as one would imagine.

For recording their sound, that was kind of a bummer.

On the other hand, I managed to record several phases of these hot, unusual days.

This time, I made a bit of a “collage” of different sounds.

Here you can hear the somewhat subdued singing of the birds, fading into a recording of my metal roof in the rain using a hydrophone pressed to the metal, then the rain washing everything away.

The rain helped enormously to extinguish the fires here in Nova Scotia, although the final “Fire under control” would still be a few days away.

The picture is from a small stream along a trail here in town. You can hear the water, but it’s hardly visible from the walkway.

Until next time…
