A few days ago, I went out to record some nice, quiet forest sounds. It was raining slightly, so I set up my gear under some leaves.
Zoom F3 in the forest

Since I already had some bad experience with water in my Zoom F3 a few months ago, this time I packed it in a Ziploc bag (upside down) to keep things dry.

The recording started nicely, with a pair of Clippies tucked under a few leaves. A nice, quiet atmosphere that I could listen to for hours, or even fall asleep with.

I was sitting close by in my car to hide from the mosquitoes when I heard rumbling.

It sounded like the gods upstairs had decided to move their furniture. My quiet forest ambience had now turned into a disturbing recording of thunder. There was no lightning and no danger, so I kept recording.

Here is a slightly shortened version of that afternoon recording.

It’s best to turn up your volume to enjoy the quiet parts better...

Until next time...
