When you are hauling around both photo gear and audio gear, things can go wrong pretty quickly. One of those moments comes when you have your camera on a tripod and want to record sound at the same time.
The Zoom H6 might be called “Handy” but it is anything but if you want to use it in the field and you have no place to put it. I am, for example, not willing to put it straight on the beach or in wet grass.
I am also not willing to spend 700+ bucks on a tripod dedicated to this. I did that for my camera, but audio gear is a lot less demanding as far as weight and stability go. Nobody cares if the stand/tripod is a bit shaky, as long as it does not topple over. We’re not touching it anyway during recording.
So then I came across this stand, very compact when folded up, but surprisingly tall (2m / 79”) when extended to the max. With that length, it can even serve as a boom pole.
It is called the Ulanzi MT-79. It is for sale for a mere 39.95 CAD so very affordable.
So the recording from the picture above goes something like this:
It’s a lot easier to record longer takes when you are not holding the recorder. At times even a heartbeat can be recorded.
Until next time…
